FIKES UPNVJ and Universiti Malaysia Sabah Strengthen Tridharma Collaboration through the International PKM Program

FIKES UPNVJ  - The Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) of UPNVJ (University of South Sumatra) is strengthening its international collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through a Community Service (PKM) program and academic visit themed "Enhancing Health Resilience in School Communities." This activity represents a concrete step in cross-border research and education collaboration to improve public health in the ASEAN region.

Sabah (11/10/2025) — The Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) of the Veteran National Development University (UPNVJ) conducted an international academic visit and Community Service (PKM) to Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) as part of the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education globally.

This activity is part of a collaborative program package themed "Enhancing Health Resilience in School Communities: Preventing Obesity and Anemia through Education and Awareness in the Era of Climate Change." Through this activity, FIKES UPNVJ and UMS are committed to strengthening the health resilience of school communities against obesity and anemia issues through an educational approach and participatory activities.

The UPNVJ Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) delegation, led by Dean Desmawati, SKp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat., Ph.D., along with lecturers and students from the Master of Public Health Program, was warmly welcomed by the leadership of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK) at UMS.

In her remarks, the Dean of FIKES at UPNVJ emphasized the importance of cross-border collaboration to address public health challenges in the era of climate change.

"Through this joint activity, we hope to strengthen research and community service networks across countries, and create a tangible impact on improving public health in the ASEAN region," said Desmawati.

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Ramdzan from FPSK UMS emphasized that this partnership reinforces the commitment of both institutions to raising awareness of regional health issues, especially among school communities.

In addition to academic sessions and thematic discussions, this activity also provided a space for students to share experiences and strategies for cross-border health promotion. Through this collaboration, FIKES UPNVJ continues to expand its role as a strategic partner in education, research, and community service to the international community that is oriented towards the sustainability and welfare of the global community.
