FIKES UPNVJ - To resuscitate or not? To report to authorities or maintain confidentiality? To protect patient rights or prevent lawsuits? Providing emergency care to patients often faces complex legal and ethical conflicts. These challenges are deemed important to illustrate and deepen in the academic stage before entering the workforce.
The Diploma III Nursing Study Program at UPN “Veteran” Jakarta, through the Emergency Nursing course, equips students with critical thinking skills in assessing legal and ethical nursing cases, particularly in emergency situations. To meet the course objectives aligned with the program's graduate learning outcomes, a case study method was implemented through debate. The debate took place in its 15th face-to-face session on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the MerCe Auditorium, UPNVJ's Limo Campus. All final-year students, both students and participants, as well as all lecturers in charge of the Constitutional Court (MK), who also served as judges, were in attendance. The debate proceeded with high enthusiasm and demonstrated excellent preparation from the students. Debate participants not only build legal and ethical knowledge and apply that information to the case, but also analyze and connect other information to challenge opposing arguments. In this way, students demonstrate Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) as a foundation for lifelong learning.
