FIKES UPNVJ - Jakarta, August 14, 2025 – Hundreds of new students at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) at the Veteran National Development University (UPNVJ) participated in an Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (K3L) socialization activity as part of the New Student Campus Life Introduction (PKKMB) program. The auditorium was filled with enthusiasm as they were introduced to the importance of building a culture of safety, health, and environmental stewardship on campus.
The Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation at FIKES emphasized that K3L is not just a formal regulation, but rather a lifelong attitude that must be instilled from the moment students set foot on campus. "As prospective healthcare workers, you must be familiar with the culture of occupational safety and environmental stewardship. This will train you to be disciplined, caring, and ready to face the real world of work," he said.
During the presentation session, students received material on procedures for the safe use of campus facilities, preventing accident risks in laboratories, managing medical and non-medical waste, and efforts to create a green and environmentally friendly learning environment. Students were also reminded of emergency evacuation procedures in the event of a natural disaster or fire on campus.
Rani (18), a new student, said she gained many new insights from this activity. "I just learned that simple things like how to dispose of laboratory waste or maintain proper body posture during lab work are part of K3L. This outreach made us realize that personal and environmental safety are top priorities," she said enthusiastically.
The K3L outreach was also interactive, featuring simulations and a question-and-answer session. Students were encouraged to understand real-life scenarios, such as how to use a portable fire extinguisher (APAR) or how to quickly provide first aid in the event of a minor accident during a lab work. This activity received a positive response because it provided hands-on experience that was easy to understand.
Through this program, FIKES UPNVJ affirmed its commitment to creating a safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly campus environment. "A healthy and environmentally friendly campus can only be achieved if the entire academic community, especially new students, understands and practices K3L in their daily lives," Agustiyawan emphasized.
At the conclusion of the socialization, new students will not only gain academic knowledge but also an awareness of the importance of maintaining safety, health, and the environment. These K3L values are expected to form a strong foundation for their journey as future healthcare professionals.
