
FIKES UPNVJ - Students of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) of the National Development University (UPN) "Veteran" Jakarta, Group 2A, successfully carried out the Field Project for the Health Collaboration and Teamwork Course. With the theme "Healthy is Cool: A Lifestyle Without the Risk of Diabetes," this activity aims to increase awareness and knowledge of children aged 6-15 years regarding diabetes prevention through a healthy lifestyle. The activity took place at the Pamulang Orphanage, South Tangerang, on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 11:00 to 16:20 WIB. A total of 9 children from the Pamulang Orphanage actively participated in this event.
The activity began with participant registration and basic health checks such as blood sugar checks at 13:20 WIB. After the opening by the MC, the first speech was delivered by the Chairperson of the Executive Syakirah Aghniya, followed by the second speech by the Supervisor Mr. Arga Buntara, S.K.M., M.P.H., and the last speech from the representative of the Pamulang Orphanage children. Next, participants participated in a number of interesting educational sessions related to preventing diabetes in children, the topics included introduction to prediabetes, balanced nutrition guidelines, and physical activities that children can do to reduce the risk of diabetes, which included an interactive question and answer session after the presentation of the material on each topic. After the education, the children of Rumah Yatim Pamulang took a pre-test and post-test to evaluate their understanding, and participated in an ice-breaking session that made the atmosphere more relaxed and enjoyable.
The event was closed with the presentation of certificates to representatives of the participants, the giving of gifts, and a documentation session. FIKES UPN "Veteran" Jakarta students hope that this activity can have a positive impact on the children at Rumah Yatim Pamulang. This activity is one form of real contribution from FIKES UPN "Veteran" Jakarta students in improving public health, especially in communities that need more attention.
